Raoul Konan was born on Africa’s Ivory Coast, and though he’s lived in Germany since 1992, he still wears his heritage on his sleeve. Many of the records he’s put out so far draw heavily from West African traditional music, and never more so than on Introducing My World. Source material for the album was recorded in his home town of Agboville with the help of local musicians, so many of the tracks are dominated by chants and live percussion. Konan put the record together back at his studio in Luebeck, placing new tunes side by side with some ones, like a new edit of his 2008 A-side “Himalaya,” and his recent collaboration with the German trio Wareika. Introducing My World will be one of Raoul K’s few albums to be released outside of his own imprint, Baobab Music.

WMC Event Guide 2011 by Miss Lucy

This year we all know that everything is sort of fucked as far as WMC and Ultra Music Festival are concerned. Most people have to choose between one event or the other. I think that Ultra will mainly be attended by the younger crowd, the naive pill popping electro loving raver sort, while WMC might be more of a mixed crowd, probably made up mostly of Miami locals. There are some interesting enough events going on during WMC but compared to the end of March it’s a snooze fest. It seems with the split of the two festivals that all the noteworthy parties are happening during the final week of the month (22nd-27th) along side UMF. Here I have compiled all the events that I think are worth attending this March. Whether you’re wanting to go to WMC or Ultra, or neither, here you will find all you need to know. Now, as I hope you’ve realized after stumbling onto my little site, I am strictly about promoting the underground electronic scene, so, below you will find only parties which are mostly made up of cutting edge, forward thinking artists or classic players who’ve paid their dues. These are people I believe are keeping it real in 2011, you feel me?

After cutting their teeth on some of the biggest labels and world stages, Livio & Roby impart their excellent deep funk laden grooves on their first record for the perfectionist House of Vakant.

A side Hatzumoto Song is nothing short of a siren song seducing any passerby or dance floor reveler, ship wrecking them on Livio & Robys divine private island. Deeply organic yet firmly routed in tech funk, the track floats effortlessly across time and dimension with perfectly sculpted groove and ambience.

Gracing the B side Moduri picks things up a bit with a classic upbeat – downbeat house rhythm while strange and eluding synths carry Livio & Robys now signature flow of musical zest and smile inducing body motivation.

Finally the digital only Resoftescu completes the 35th installment of Vakants life companion series with the push-pull of dark moody synths and uplifting acoustic piano chords. Combined with the steady cadence of tasteful percussion, the sounds melt to produce a gliding mélange of soothing beauty.
